Showing Your Work
Portfolio is where you add the work you want people to see. Each piece gets its own entry, and they appear on your site in the order you choose.
Adding a piece of work
Give it a title and a short summary — that summary is what people read on the card before they click, so it is worth a moment. Then add as much or as little as you like:
- A cover image and a logo, shown on the card
- A longer description for anyone who opens it
- Tags — the tools, materials or services involved
- Highlights — the two or three things worth saying about this job
- A breakdown — individual parts of the work, each with its own note
- Links — to the finished thing, and to anywhere else it lives
Draft and published
A new piece starts as a Draft, which only you can see. Publish it when the write-up is ready.
That means you can add a job the day you finish it and write it up properly over the following week, without a half-finished entry sitting on your site in the meantime.
What the work is doing
Separately from whether it is published, each piece has a status: Live, In progress, Archived or Private.
These answer different questions, and keeping them apart is deliberate. A finished job can sit in draft while you write about it. A live one can be taken off your site without pretending it never happened. And a piece you cannot show publicly — a private client, an internal tool — can still be recorded as work you have done.
Ordering
Move pieces up and down to set the order they appear in. The first one is the one most people will look at, so put your best there rather than your newest.
New work is added at the top by default, since that is usually where you want it.
Its web address
Each piece has a short web address made of lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. It has to be different from your other pieces, but it only has to be unique to you — another business using Helm can have the same one.
