Abandoned Carts

When a shopper fills a bag and leaves, it is listed here, so you can see what nearly sold. In Orders, choose Abandoned carts.

For your site to save bags, it has to be set up to do so. If the list stays empty after a quiet week, ask your developer.

What you see

Each row shows the bag's items and value, how long ago it was left and where it stands: whether the shopper agreed to a reminder, whether one has been sent and whether the bag was recovered into an order. The top of the page counts the bags left behind and the ones recovered in the last 30 days.

A shopper's email is shown only if they ticked the box at checkout agreeing to one reminder. Without the tick, the bag is listed without a name and no reminder can be sent.

Sending a reminder

Choose Send reminder on a bag, or tick several and choose Send reminders. A reminder is the shop's own email, in the shopper's language, with a link back to the bag. Each shopper has these limits, so nobody is chased:

  • One reminder per bag.
  • Only to a shopper who is signed in or has ordered from you before.
  • One reminder a month to any address.
  • 20 reminders a day for your shop.

Every reminder carries a line to stop them. Once someone stops them, that address gets no more from your shop. When a bag is recovered into an order, it shows as recovered.

Settings

Under Settings > Shop > Store details, Abandoned carts has two settings:

  • Bag address pattern — only an owner can change this. It is where a bag reopens on your website. Write your site's address with {bag} where the bag goes, and {locale} for the language if your pages have one. Without it there is no link back and no reminder is sent.
  • Abandoned after — owners and editors can change this. It is how many hours a bag sits untouched before it counts as abandoned, from 1 to 72. The default is 24.

The screen also gives you one line to add to your privacy notice. Bags that are not completed are deleted after 30 days. If you delete a customer, their bags go too.

Exporting

Export CSV downloads the list. Owners and editors can search by email, send reminders and export. Orders-only members do not see this page.
